This week’s note from Rev. Ben: Buckets

Since Helene moved beyond us, we have seen many areas further north in Florida and beyond that were not as fortunate. I’m grateful for the connectional nature of The United Methodist Church, and one of the things it offers us – in addition to receiving support when needed – is the opportunity to provide support when it is needed.

Today, that is our opportunity. As a church, we will be assembling cleaning kits, or flood buckets, to share with those that can use them amid the disaster they’re recovering from. It is an urgent need.

If you are interested and able to create a bucket, please do so and bring it to the church office (Monday through Thursday, 9a to noon or contact me to schedule a pickup). Ideally they would be ready by Thursday, October 10 and brought to the church office, allowing me to take them to a Conference event on Friday to be distributed. However we will continue to receive them through the following week and will get them to Lakeland to be distributed another way.

If unable to create a bucket on your own, please consider a financial donation towards First Bonita’s production of buckets. We will use those donations to assemble as many buckets as we can, with any additional funds not able to go towards a full bucket given to UMCOR for the relief efforts. If you can help with shopping and assembly of these buckets, please let me know.

For more information, please click the button below to visit UMCOR’s website that includes a helpful one-minute video and more information about flood buckets. I’m happy to answer any questions if something isn’t clear. Thank you for participating in our support of those in need following Hurricane Helene.

Grace and Peace,

Ben
